Application Steps:

  1. Download Application and mail your completed document with a photo and requested attachments to: Metta Institute, PO Box 2710, Sausalito, CA. 94966
  2. An e-mail confirmation will be sent once your application is received.
  3. Faculty members will review your application, the attachments, and your proposed plan for use of the training in your local community.
  4. Dependent on the merits of your application, you may be selected for a face-to-face or telephone interview and asked to submit written references.
  5. There will be some "rolling" acceptances and denials as we review applications and conduct interviews. We will announce the final list of candidates selected for admission by October 1, 2008.

  • A clear commitment to a personal spiritual practice or path that is integrated with your End-of-Life work.
  • The merits of your proposed plan for use of the training in your local community (clarity and specificity regarding impact on end-of-life care and evidence of support for the feasibility and implementation of plan).
  • Demonstrated support for your participation in the course (letters of support or financial commitments) from your employer or local community organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in basic counseling or coaching skills and a capacity for deep listening and clear communication.
  • Experience in using yourself in the altruistic service of others.
  • A mature relationship to your inner life.
  • An on-going mentoring relationship in your local community (ie. therapist, spiritual director or meditation teacher, coach, other professional)
  • A clear commitment to trans-traditional approaches to dying and the spiritual dimensions.
  • A capacity to think "outside the box," to embrace paradox, and inspire others.
